Why
Ubuntu
This
article features some advantages in using Linux operating system, i
have taken the example of Ubuntu which i have been using for my
personal laptop .
Free(dom) :
The best reason for me to use Ubuntu is it is 100% Free , and you can
get updated version every year ( to be precise twice a year ) . We
all have the laptops bought with OS as default so most of us don't know how much we pay for . I felt freedom here and in Linux distros
(distributions ) we have many more options and i tried few of them
with Virtual machine and then finally decided to use Ubuntu as my OS
Virus :
Well there is no OS
that is 100% free of Virus or Security threats , I would say there
are many Linux version and some based on Debian (used .deb files for
installation ) like Ubuntu and other Linux has different file for
installation so chances of having virus is comparatively less in my
opinion .
It’s
Different :
When
it comes to Work we do not have real choice to pick our OS , we have
to move with the system for compatibility , but when it comes to
personal computing , i wanted to have a different take on it and
chose to try a new OS .
I
would say this is not all green in this side . It takes getting used
to like , how to install applications and how to tweak to meet your
preference , and there are sure many blogs and websites which will
help in this regard
Updates
:
This
is the fun part for me . In Ubuntu if you want to have your system
applications to be upgraded . All you need to do this run few
Terminal commands like below .and
That’s it .
sudo
apt update
sudo
apt upgrade
In
no time the applications in your system will get updated . I am just
saying some features here and there are much more you could do with
terminal commands . You can install applications from Terminal to
start with .
Feel
at Home :
Fear
not many the applications like Google chrome , Mozilla Firefox ,
Skype etc are available and most of the applications have Linux
versions and if not you could find some applications there will be open source alternatives will be available
I
am very happy with LibreOffice , a free productivity application
which helps you to create documents required for your work . I have
prepared this article in LibreOffice Writer application and it is
awesome .
